Meet Tom Owens
Tom has been working at Champion for 23 years. In those 23 years he has worked as a shop technician, shop utility, and stretch rack among others. His current job is a maintenance group leader. He has been married to his wife Brenda for 34 years. He has five children, four boys and a girl. Other than working at Champion he enjoys hunting and riding his Harley. HISTORY OF A CHAMPION Champion Bus is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thor Industries. Champion was founded in 1953 and in 1972 built the facilities that currently house the operation that began producing Cutaway buses in 1981. In February 1998, Thor Industries acquired certain assets including Champion Bus, Inc. from Champion Enterprises of Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Champion Bus is located on 73 acres in Imlay City, Michigan. With over 194,000 square feet of manufacturing space and over 250 dedicated employees, they are able to produce over 1,200 mid-size buses per year.
Since 1999, Champion has been ISO certified and is currently registered as ISO 9001:2000. Champion was also the first bus company to be QVM certified by Ford Motor Company. The majority of the Champion Bus products have been tested at the Federal Transit Authority's, Altoona Pennsylvania, testing facility and all products are in compliance with Federal Motor VehicleSafety Standards.
